No Man’s Art Gallery is honoured to present the black bird was singing, the light was bright, the fourth solo exhibition by Marilyn Sonneveld at the gallery.
For her fourth solo exhibition at the gallery, Marilyn Sonneveld presents a new body of work that explores the shifting dynamics of intimacy, care, and kinship. Through oil and glass painting, Opening the window, the black bird was singing, the light was bright brings together moments of tenderness and vulnerability, where love and loss exist in quiet proximity.
Sonneveld's compositions draw on everyday gestures and familial relationships to reflect on the emotional complexities of kinship, the changing rhythms of family life, and the search for connection and belonging.
Marilyn Sonneveld (b. 1990, NL) is an interdisciplinary visual artist graduated from the Willem DeKooning Academy in Rotterdam, currently lives and works in Amsterdam. Her artistic practice includes a range of materials, techniques, and scales, such as mural-sized, oil paintings, glass sculptures and panels and installation. Through a vivid interplay of color and form, Sonneveld’s oil paintings and glass objects express intimate narratives that communicate universal notions around the body, touching upon (self)acceptance, vulnerability and sexuality.
